A History of Albany, NY Punk & Hardcore -- 1980-1991

I built (and may add to) this compilation of Albany, NY off site, ON THIS PAGE. I didn't have time to test all the mp3s and images, so please write comments here if you find problems with the page.

Crap. Google took over my blog and the first thing that happened is it lost my post due to a server error..I guess I'll rewrite this comment. grrrrrrr.

Slobodan - Thanks, I did see your Plague posts. But, you have Plague from Ohio and I'm looking for tracks from The Plague from Albany, NY in the early 80s (it took me a while myself to determine they were different bands -- in fact it was your blog that confirmed it).

Anyway, for those interested in The (Albany) Plague, I contacted Mike Eck (http://www.michaeleck.com) who was in the band. He is going to try to rip some tracks for me. When I get them I’ll happily post ‘em up on the Albany comp.

I might be able to add to your collection, if you're interested. There's a third incarnation of Intent that happened in 1992-3; Adam left the band and I joined up. We didn't do any other vinyl, but I recorded a mess of demos to 4 track, and if you were interested I might be able to remix some of that. Email me at thejames AT thejamesrocket DOT com and let me know.

Just as a note to the author...I was the singer that replaced Mr Reddy in Wolfpack and we actually played the most shows together out of ANY of the Wolfpack lineups including several shows at CBGBS and all around the midwest Pitt,Toledo Cleveland,Latrobe ect ect...lol...Its funny how steve seems to be so remembered in Wolfpack with a fairly brief stint but the true heart of the band was Drew(also THE founder of albany style and fit for abuse) who wrote ALL the music and a great deal of the lyrics to the Wolfpack songs......other quick notes....the original WP lineup had several members who left to join Final Terror (the first band with both albany and troy kids) before the troy longhair albany skin fights of the late 80s and early 90s
Finally drew and I with several others did wolfpack reunion shows in early 2000 we may actually do a full on all members reunion later this year stay tuned and bring your walkers

Thanks Board Talk 1300! Wow a WP reunion would be amazing. Without trying to insult you, I have a vague of there being another WP singer after Steve but I don't remember I ever saw that incarnation of WP. I left Albany for good around 89-90 so that might be why.

I saw one early (I think) Final Terror show at 288 Lark where I'd swear Bob from Cranial Abuse/Stigmata was singing. Am I crazy or did he sing with them for a bit?

The reason people remember the Steve Reddy Wolfpack is because (i) Steve put on the shows as well as traveled for years with Youth of Today and runs a little record label, so people in the scene know Steve and (ii) Steve sang on the album.

Yes. I only remember the Reddy era because I left Albany around 88-89. I don't think I ever saw a WP show with anyone else singing. Coincidentally it was around that time that Kate and Steve started dating. Kate and I were at the same college at the time, as were Sam McPheeters and Jason O'Toole. Apparently it was the higher ed destination for the Albany HC scene. And it was pretty much a complete coincidence that we all went there (except for Sam and Jay who applied together).

Awesome! My name is Brandt and I played drums for Infectious Waste. I found 'Grind' on your Albany Hardcore page. None of us had a copy of this. Thanx for digging up a relic or two. Ah... memories
